Little Belt Shipyard

Klinkbygning is on Unesco's list of inalienable cultural heritage and that Lillebæltsværftet is one of the few places in the world where boats are still built according to the old tradition?

The Little Belt Shipyard is today operated as a museum yard and maritime history center for the northern part of the Little Belt, where wooden shipbuilding traditions are still preserved and disseminated.

Since 1855, dinghies and boats have been built at the small shipyard. “Little Belt dinghies” were built here, which were used for guinea pig hunting, fishing and pilotage.

The preferred construction technique was brick construction. The clinker boat is a special type of boat with a hull construction where the planks in the hull overlap each other.
The traditions surrounding the use of the clinker-built boat have existed for more than a thousand years and are an important part of the Nordic coastal culture and cultural heritage.

That is why brick building is busy Unesco's list of inalienable cultural heritage and the Lillebæltsværftet is one of the few places in the world where boats are still built according to the old tradition.
