CLAY Ceramics Museum Denmark

CLAY is Denmark's Ceramic Museum. The museum is a cultural pit stop for cyclists with a beautiful view of the Little Belt, unique exhibition of ceramic art, handicrafts and design and a nice sculpture park.

CLAY KERAMIKMUSEUM DENMARK (the former Danish Ceramics Museum Grimmerhus) is a unique special museum for ceramic arts, crafts and design. It has one of Europe's most distinguished collections of ceramics, as in 2010 the museum was awarded a unique collection consisting of approx. 55.000 ceramic works - porcelain, stoneware and earthenware - from The Royal Porcelain Factory, Bing & Grøndal and Aluminia. It's about. 1.000 works exhibited by the 55.000. What makes the collection unique is that it has never before been presented to an audience, and that it reflects more than 235 years of ceramic design development produced at the three honored Danish ceramic factories: The Royal Porcelain factory, Bing & Grondahl and Aluminia.

Among both young and old, the interest in ceramics in recent years is fierce and throughout the world - from China to the USA - the "three blue waves" are the epitome of Danish craftsmanship and design. After an extensive renovation and extension, CLAY Keramikmuseum Danmark is open again, and the presentation of the royal porcelain collection is a significant attraction for both Danish and foreign guests.

CLAY forms the framework for changing special exhibitions and thematic events with ceramics as the focal point. A visit to CLAY Keramikmuseum Danmark will involve a meeting with the exciting ceramic art, an opportunity for a cozy moment in the museum's cafe, as well as a look into the museum shop's tasteful selection of unique ceramic crafts and design.

In addition, the architecture itself and the surrounding sculpture park with a view of the Little Belt, which in itself is a great experience. With the beautiful extension, which is preferably located underground, the original building Grimmerhus has been taken into account as much as possible - a unique architectural gem from 1857, which today is completely listed.

Name change from Grimmerhus to CLAY Keramikmuseum Danmark

It is not entirely coincidental that the Danish Ceramics Museum Grimmerhus is now called CLAY Keramikmuseum Denmark. The idea for the museum, which opened in 1994, originated from a group of ceramic artists who called themselves Clay Today. Over the years, the exhibitions have had many different, exciting touches from ceramic artists, and the collection of ceramics at CLAY has only grown.

CLAY is both an architectural gem and a very exciting insight into the world of ceramics, which should be experienced when visiting Middelfart.
