Catch the best cod in the Little Belt

The cod is often caught when fishing for sea trout from the coast, especially in the 'golden hour' before sunset. From land, it is typically smaller cod, so if you want bigger fish, it is an advantage to take a tour boat or a dinghy out on the Little Belt.

Stronger spinning gear can be advantageously used for coastal fishing for cod than for sea trout fishing. Take a 9-10 foot rod with a casting weight of 40-60 grams, so that you can push the cod up from the bottom and out of the seaweed and vegetation. The cod will very often search for the seaweed if you don't touch it. Flashes, jigs, pokes and wobblers of 25-40 grams from the coast are fine. In addition, a strong spinning wheel with 0,30 m/m nylon line or 0,17-0,19 m/m braided line. Alternatively, a multiplier wheel that more easily handles heavy flashes, pokes and wobblers.

Find the cod

You will find the cod where there is deep water close to shore. As mentioned, the absolute best fishing takes place in the hour around sunset. In the summer, you can sometimes be lucky and experience that the cod in the evening goes to the surface and rings like trout. But usually the cod is found at the bottom. Throw out. Let the flash drop down to the bottom and start spinning when it is down. Not too fast. Take breaks. Moderate spinning.

Regularly chop the cod when the blink or prick falls to the bottom. You can hook the cod by holding your finger gently against the line so that there is contact with the line and prick while it falls towards the bottom. When the fish chops, you lock the line with your finger against the rod and immediately turn the bar over on the wheel and give a hit. It requires a little practice, but with a little concentration you will quickly find the rhythm and thus get more cod on land.

The cod can also be caught with a bottom tackle fitted with a sandworm, herring fillet or other fish fillets. Here, a powerful 10-11 foot rod with a casting weight of 40-100 grams is preferable and a correspondingly powerful wheel. The powerful gear is due to the fact that you have to fish the tackle on the bottom, where the pliers require powerful gear to move the tackle free when it is inevitably stuck from time to time. Set hard against hard when the cod chops and get it up in the open water and away from the seaweed as soon as possible.
